Freelance Bookkeeping Rates - How to charge For Your Bookkeeping Services

New to the bookkeeping business?

Then you are probably uncertain about how much to fee for your services. This is company advice for Bookkeepers and other consultants as well.

Door Bottom

When I began my bookkeeping company in 1999, so was I. Here are some tips on what to charge.

One chapter I learned quickly is that every person wants a deal and they think that you should give them one, but the minuscule you do, they will undervalue your services and think it to be a permanent discount.

Don't make the mistake of charging too minuscule - Use bonus incentives and bonuses for new client referrals instead of lowering your price for any customer. Even once can be the "Kiss of Death" to your rate sheet.

Do not guess at how much to charge, either. When you begin you need to seek out other professionals in your field and simply ask them what the rates are that they are charging in that area. Ask them if there is a sliding scale and if so, what criteria they use to rule those variables.

Here is what I outline -

Small company clients would rather pay a flat fee than an hourly rate. Most bookkeepers fee an hourly rate, but will fee a flat fee based on the number of transactions that need to be entered, plus -10 (if they don't know the client in advance). You must also presume these costs into your calculations - Workers Compensation, self-employment tax (10% for Usa), and company insurance.

For a basic bank and prestige card reconciliation, data entry and set of monthly financials you will work approximately 2.5 minutes per entry. Each data entry transaction counts as "2.5." So, if you have an average small company with 200 entries per month, you need to fee 2.5 minutes per entry minimum.

Experience tells me that some entries will take more time and some entries will take less time, but from start to halt all entries made will equilibrium out to 2.5 minutes apiece. At the rate I fee that means that a monthly flat fee for this buyer equals 2.5 times number of entries divided by 60 total minutes times hourly rate (2.5 x 200 / 60 x = 0 per month flat fee).

Not all bookkeepers are willing to share their fee structure with others, so do not be afraid to ask some bookkeepers what they fee for a beginning point of reference. You will find that there are ranges of rates from -60 + per hour. Pick one of those rates that feels like it covers your costs and still holds you accountable as an expert in your field. If you fee an hour then you absolutely need to get more experience and/or study to be taken seriously. Bookkeeping Accreditation is one way to do that. Check with your local chapter of American originate of pro Bookkeepers for accreditation.

If your buyer seems apprehensive about your fee then ask them if they would dream a set of records presented to their accountant at the end of the year with no problems, and if that would be an equitable way to think of your fee. If they still hesitate then you are best advised to help them find someone else.

The benefits of hiring a bookkeeper also consist of the fact that a full-time laborer and payroll costs are eliminated, computer hardware and software and extra office space and warehouse for bookkeeping purposes aren't necessary.

-45 is the average cost per hour for a good bookkeeper who knows the business. For higher hourly rates you are paying for a bookkeeper who works with an accountant. Those rates reflect the fact that they work with professionals who oversee their work and the higher rate is symbolic of the review by a tax pro of the records of a company before they go out the door to the Irs or Cra. It is worth the extra cost for a lot of clients. For others it is not and those population probably don't make the best clients for experienced bookkeepers.

When you are creating your invoices for your own buyer billings, briefly rewrite the work you did for them (client) in the body of your invoice to them. There is absolutely no need to add all the items on your list of the services you provided for them. You just want to consist of a 2-5 sentence outline for your client so that they understand what they are paying for.

Tip: If you have a large number on your invoice to present to them then try to break it up into 2-3 separate invoices in the procedure of a month. Your clients may need you to do their work, but nobody appreciates a huge bill at the end of the month without any warning. Those situations lead to ill-will and short-term clients. Longevity is the key to owning and operating a reputable and long-standing bookkeeping business.

Invoice Descriptions Include:

"Bookkeeping services rendered for November, included but were not minuscule to, the following: Bank and prestige card reconciliation and reports for October statements, cash receipts journal, cash disbursements journal, normal journal entries (for those on an accrual method of accounting. normal journal and accruals, trial balance, normal ledger postings. If you performed payroll services then add "payroll preparation," "quarterly payroll tax returns," etc.

The big photograph and a few details help your client understand why you bill the way you do. And why you are worth it!

If you performed additional services that you pick to leave as un-billed go ahead and add it to your invoice as a note on the bottom listing that aid - For example: Irs phone calls for payroll issue 3 hours at no charge. Always say, "Thank you." Never ask a client to call with questions on your invoice.

Charge for telephone consultations and training sessions at reduced rates - Unless you want to be training your clients for free and that just takes away critical time you can be spending getting other jobs and clients. Time is Money-Use yours wisely to grow your business. Do not nickel and dime clients - faxing and copies should not be billed out unless they exceed .00 in your time and costs.

Always invoice your clients usually - the same time every single month. Generate pro invoices even if it's on an Excel spreadsheet. Use the last day of the month as a guideline in billing dates.

Still finding for clients?

- Look straight through the want ads for population who are interested in hiring a 10-15 hour someone a week. Commonly these population are less interested in hiring an employee. Give them a call or send your company card and resume and cover letter explaining why your aid is good for them - outline the benefits for them and request a phone call to discuss it.

- Join a local networking group. I found that company Networking International (Bni) not only helped me expertly with group speaking, and self confidence, but they also gave me a steady and solid stream of references every single week that grew my company and kept me busy. The cost of membership paid for itself in only one week.

Good luck!

Small Bathroom construct With A Small Bathtub

What to do if a accepted bathtub won't fit into your small bathroom

If you are remodeling a very small bathroom that isn't big adequate to fit a full sized bath or if you want to add a shower cubicle to your already cramped bathroom then there are a few options that you might want to consider.

Door Bottom

Shower above the bathtub

If you have room for a full sized bathtub then the option that many citizen take is to put a shower over the bathtub. While this is an easy option I don't personally like it very much because it's difficult to make it look good and it all the time feels like a compromise that I didn't want to make.

Showers are for washing efficiently but bathtubs are for soaking and relaxing

After my small bathroom remodel I now have a shower cubicle as well as a bathtub, which I think is the ideal situation. Now that I have both I've been surprised to find that I use the shower far more often than I use the bathtub. Why is this? Well it's because a shower is far more productive than bathing. I can shower in 5 minutes but when I take a bath I like to make it last for an hour or more. So for me the shower is for washing and the bathtub is for relaxing.

Trade the length of your bathtub for depth

Your bathtub is for soaking and relaxing in and for that you need to be immersed in water and you need to be comfortable. It's no good installing a short, shallow bathtub just to make it fit into your puny bathroom because it won't be any good for soaking in and it won't be comfortable either.

A best idea is to trade length of your tub for depth. This uncomplicated belief makes it possible to fit a bathtub that requires a modest floor area but still allows you to immerse yourself in water and relax.

Soaking bathtubs

The Japanese have a long tradition of using bathtubs for soaking and relaxation. They also often have to manage in very small accommodations so you can get a lot of ideas from looking at the way they live. The most inspiring soaking tub that I've come over was nothing more than a wooden barrel with a stool fixed to the bottom. Yes it was crude but it worked. It fitted into a tiny puny bathroom, it immersed you in water and it was very relaxing.

Walk in bathtubs

A sophisticated version of the wooden barrel bathtub is the contemporary walk-in bathtub. The ideas are the same but they have built in seats and a door to allow easy access. A walk-in bathtub takes up much less space than a accepted bathtub but still allows you to take a very relaxing bath.

The walk-in bathtub door can be a two edged sword however. It allows easy access on the one hand, which is great if you have mystery stepping up into the bath. The problem is that the door has a possible to leak at some point and need maintenance. Also you can't use the door unless the bathtub is empty of water, which means that you have to be inside when filling and emptying with water.

Short and deep bathtubs for very small bathrooms

So if you are remodeling a small bathroom remember that you can select a shorter bathtub but make sure that it's deep adequate to give you a long relaxing soak.

How to Cut Laminate Flooring

If you are looking for some tips on how to cut laminate flooring, here are some things that could help to make the job easier and more pro looking.

Types of Saws

Door Bottom

Some laminate floor installers like to use a framing blade, while others go with a fine-tooth paneling blade. I mostly use a framing blade because it lasts longer on the job. When I cut with a framing blade I make my measurement on the lowest side of the flooring piece, as this allows me a flat terminated cut on the top laminate side.

Straight Runs

On the straight runs when I come to the wall or baseboard I always measure from my last full piece to the wall and take off 1/4". Then I take a new piece and cut that measurement off.

Ripping

When getting to a piece of laminate flooring that needs to be ripped, I result the same course as above, allowing 1/4" on the end and also 1/4" off the rip thickness.

Cutting around Door Jambs

When you get to door jambs, check to make sure that the piece of flooring plus the pad will fit under the jamb and door casing. If it fits, fantastic! If not, I suggest marking your jamb and door casing and cutting them with a jamb saw. Doing this will make cutting floor pieces around doors easier and give a more terminated look.

When the cutting of the door jamb and casing is finished, measure the piece that needs to go in the middle of the door jamb and the full piece that it will associate to and add 1/4" to your first cut or notch and subtract 1/4" from your second cut or notch. This should leave you with a "U" shaped cut (but the lowest of the "U" would be flat instead of rounded). I then take a saber saw or hand jig saw and cut out the "U" shaped piece and install that piece.

I hope that these tips on how to cut laminate flooring helped. If you have any questions for me on this topic, or any other part of installing a laminate floor, please visit my website.

Free enterprise Cards and Free Shipping - Does it Exist?

Each and every day, thousands of citizen flock to the internet to order business cards.

It wasn't all the time this way of course. In the "old days" citizen used to walk into their local print shop, look at some templates and card options, give the printer their sense details, and they'd walk out with a stack of new cards.

Door Bottom

The possibility of getting them for free couldn't truly exist under those circumstances.

It truly can today. With printing becoming more affordable with volume, and many of the top websites being able to print volumes Far exceeding (as in tens of thousands of times) the print volume of a local printer, online print houses began offering free or practically free business cards to lure customers in.

Part of the guess they are able to do this, is quite simply, repeat business.

After all, if you get one thing printed with them, chances are you'll return when you need postcards, or letterhead, or any of dozens of other personal or business products these online printhouses are able to provide.

And chances are you'll re-order cards in near future as well.

You might even tell a few friends about the great deal you just got, and then they'll go and order.

In essence, the complimentary business cards offer is truly just a clever "loss leader" to help fellowships get their foot in the door. Once they do, they've earned a buyer that may return to them for years and years and for more and more print services.

Another guess many fellowships are able to offer free business cards is the potential to payment shipping and handling on these orders, which in many cases helps them recoup the cost of the printing. In some cases, they may even make money on the transaction! fantasize that... Make money by giving something away!

Other fellowships -- whether unable or unwilling to give away cards for free -- decided instead to offer free shipping to win over customers. In order to compete, they may offer more in the way of quality, service, or option.

So... If some fellowships offer the cards for free, and other fellowships offer free shipping... The interrogate that naturally follows is, "can I get free business cards And free shipping?"

Actually, you can!

Offering free business cards with free shipping has proven to be a great way for fellowships to get publicity, often in the form of press releases that circulate around the web straight through news sites, public media sites like Twitter and Facebook, and others.

The qoute is that these offers go fast. To limit their financial exposure, the fellowships only offer the deal to a tiny estimate of customers. Get there first... And they're yours. There's an element of luck and timing in getting to these deals.

A few companies, however, have found that giving away the cards and shipping them free is a qualified way to earn buyer loyalty. On the plus side, they leave these offers on the table for longer periods of time. On the negative side, the quantity of cards they'll give away to each buyer is generally pretty small.

Deciding in the middle of free business cards with a nominal shipping charge, and one of these smaller, or rarer deals that offer both for free, all depends on what you need.

The bottom line is that there sure are some great offers out there! So take advantage of them!

Where to Place Knobs on a Cabinet

Once you decree to change out cabinet hardware you might find the style you pick won't look that great if you try and replace the knobs in the same spots that the old ones were in. Well what to do? You unquestionably don't want to go back to the same boring old hardware. Instead you need a good insight of your options for where to place knobs on a cabinet.

The most unavoidable place to put a knob will be on a side opposite a hinge. The leverage allows you to open the door with almost no effort. This is great for those that might have a disability limiting their grip strength. The only exception to this rule is if you have roll out bottom cabinets, you know, the giant drawer types. Those you'll want to setup the knobs centered on the cabinet to keep it from binding up on either side.

Door Bottom

Well that gives you a rough idea of where to put the knobs but you probably need something a slight bit more exact. Unfortunately there's no magic recipe for where to place knobs on a cabinet. It's all going to come down to how the cabinets are designed and the size and shape of them and your kitchen.

There's a trick you can use to frame out where to place the knobs without just randomly drilling a bunch of holes into the cabinet face and hoping for the best. Head out to the hardware store and pick up a small tub of plumber's putty. Plumbers putty is a non-hardening compound that's slightly tacky. You can pull off slight dollops of it then use it to just stick the knobs to the cabinet.

Here's what you'll do.

Open up the tub of Plumber's putty.

Pinch off a piece of putty about the size of the tip of your thumb.

Roll it into a ball.

Take the cabinet hardware and press the putty onto the back of it. Now you can just stick the knob onto the cabinet face wherever you think it will look right. Repeat this for a integrate of the doors so you can get an allinclusive feel for how the knobs will look sitting in a row. You can reposition the knobs just by popping them off the cabinet face and sticking them back on in a new spot.

Once you've figured out the right look for the cabinet you'll need to portion the knob offsets from the bottom and side edge of the cabinets. You can then use those measurements as a template for knob placement. Mark the offsets on each of the cabinets and duplicate check to make sure they aren't slanting up or down.

The last thing to do is attach the hardware. Just drill the holes in the cabinet and slide a bolt straight through the hole and tighten the knobs down onto it. It's all a pretty straightforward job. Where to place knobs on a cabinet is a fully personal choice. You'll know what looks right once you get the knobs in position.

How to Use a Chicken Nesting Box - Roosting Box

Chicken Roosting boxes should be made from exterior grade plywood, and commonly should not be stained. They work best when they are about 12 inches deep, 12 inches wide and about 12 inches tall on the side that mounts to the inside of the chicken coop. The chicken nesting boxes have a sloping top that slopes down to end up below the roosting perch. This is where chickens sit, and then lay their eggs into the chicken nesting or roosting box below.

One examine that many backyard poultry flock lovers ask is how many hens can use the same chicken nesting box. Most citizen agree that you should supply one chicken nesting box for every four hens. Each box should be mounted to the inside of the chicken coop, placed somewhere in the middle of 18 inches and 24 inches above the ground. This is also a favorable height to reach through an exterior egg door, to pick the fresh eggs that your obliging hens will lay.

Door Bottom

Roosting perches need to be in case, granted for the hens to sit on. These perches should also be no lower than 18 to 24 inches above the ground. Some folks use more than one perch, which could look a ladder that is leaning to the side. This allows the chickens to move around. The rule of thumb here is to try to supply at least 8 to 10 inches of perching area for each chicken.

The roosting perch should be mounted above one end of the chicken nesting box, an inch or so up, but close adequate so that the hen will sit on the perch and lay her eggs in the box. The roosting perch should be made from wood, and most folks agree on a diameter of about 2 inches for quarterly size chickens and about an inch thick for Bantams. Many folks assuredly use branches as roosting perches to help originate a natural setting. Lastly, many chicken farmers in cold climates use flat 2x4 wood as perches to make the chicken sit flat on her feet, which helps keep her feet warm!

Chicken nesting boxes need a quarterly agenda for good sanitation. Start by using corrugated cardboard as a liner to fit the lowest of each nest. This makes it much easier to remove the lining material and to clean the nest on a quarterly basis. The cardboard should be replaced frequently, as the hens could peck though it or it could come to be soiled. If you prefer to use a longer continuing liner material for the lowest of your chicken roosting box, then some folks propose using left over roofing shingles that are cut to fit. These will last much longer and are very durable. Some folks have concerns about using asphalt artificial shingles due to possible condition concerns. This becomes a personal choice.

Lastly, make sure to line the inside of your chicken nesting box with either wood shavings, straw or shredded paper. Some backyard farmers even use their old lawn clippings. If you choose to do this, make sure they are fully dried out and that you did not use chemicals on your lawn. These liner materials help to keep your eggs clean and cut the occasion of them being cracked. In the event that you do get a cracked egg that leaks, be sure to clean out the chicken nesting box fully and as soon as possible. Without good sanitation practices, bacteria can build up speedily in the nest and end up on new eggs. All the time remove the nesting material after any egg breakage or if a hen uses the nest as a potty to avoid problems. Using the cardboard liner will stop a leaking egg from sticking to the lowest like glue.

To have the freshest eggs, right from your backyard flock, try to fetch eggs at least once a day, and keep them cool after they are gathered. Also, do not continue to reuse the same egg cartons as bacteria can build up and contaminate fresh eggs from this as well.
